The robot is designed and built by university students of the University of Turin, following a co-design approach that involved primary school children in the conception and design phase. The first version of the robot consists of a very common hobby robotics kit (Arduino), is able to move through its four motorized wheels and can be controlled via a web application. The latter has also been developed in the version focused on block programming, implementing Google Blockly for the needs and functions of the robot.
The project is funded by Google and concerns the training of teachers on teaching educational robotics. We recognize the importance for students to be able to program but, at the same time, we consider it essential to train teachers through a free educational path, with activities to be carried out in the classroom by offering them a low-cost educational robotics kit. The final learning product is a free online Moodle course on robotics, consisting of various modules (basic, intermediate and advanced) made from video lessons with transcription of texts, exercises and tests to be carried out.
